"我认为如果你真的想提高自己在研究过程中。你需要更多地与你的教授互动，并向他展示你对经济学的热爱。教授引导你走正确的道路，但你需要自己完成马拉松" ，科研学习并不轻松，需要学生全力以赴与大学老师互动交流，CM把这一学习讨论的过程比喻为马拉松。参与科研，不仅仅是获得了眼前的直观收获推荐信、科研证书、科研履历，更是为学生们打开了一扇窗，去发现和了解不一样的思维模型，方法与观点，从而帮助学生更好的成长。
本文是学生在美国大学科研学习结束后所写的感受，在文章的结尾，附录学生科研结束时撰写的科研论文，供其他学生及家长参考。
科研总结
This is CM. I’m a 18 years-old upcoming senior now studying in WC High School, United States. As for me, the most important feature of the economic research program is to promote students thinking, gain academic knowledge, improve problem solving skills and obtain a better understanding of what is economics and finance.
这是CM。我今年18岁，即将毕业于美国WC高中。对我来说，经济研究项目最重要的特点是促进学生思考，获得学术知识，提高解决问题的能力，并更好地理解什么是经济学和金融学。
And for me there are a lot of reasons to get into economic field and maybe get a economic related job. Number one: As an economist, you can make a living from predicting future economic events. The key to being a good economic forecaster is to use a mixture of dice and lottery numbers. (some economists make the mistake of using just lottery numbers, but this can lead to really bad forecasting) If this method fails just use the statistics from the previous year; they are always more accurate than the actual predictions of economists. Number two: You can always give advice. When the economy enters a recession, you will be able to tell everybody why the economy is in a recession. Also, you will be able to suggest several conflicting reasons as to how we can get out of a recession.
对我来说，有很多理由进入经济领域，也许会得到一份与经济相关的工作。第一：作为经济学家，你可以通过预测未来的经济事件来谋生。做一个好的经济预测者的关键是使用骰子和彩票号码的混合。（一些经济学家犯了只使用彩票号码的错误，但这会导致非常糟糕的预测），如果这种方法失败了，只使用上一年的统计数据，它们总是比经济学家的实际预测更准确。第二：你总能给出建议。当经济进入衰退时，你将能够告诉每个人经济衰退的原因。此外，你还可以提出一些相互矛盾的原因，说明我们如何走出衰退。
What I have learned in the theory part of economic research is that economics isn’t just learning a fancy set of words, it’s actually using them to develop a viable business strategy. When you understand these terms, you can use theories and frameworks like Porter’s Five Forces and SWOT analyses to assess situations and make a variety of economic decisions for your organization, like whether to pursue a bundled or unbundled pricing model. Secondly, this economic research taught me how organization and its market behaves, but you’ll also gain insight into your own spending habits and values. For example, Willingness to Pay (WTP) is the maximum amount someone is willing to pay for a good or service. There’s frequently a gap between hypothetical and actual WTP, and learning about it will help you decode your own behavior and enable you to make economically sound decisions. Also, I learned a lot of terminologies in economics and some math function to deal with real life financial problem. Therefore, I think the economic theory part of our program has been great.
我从经济学研究的理论部分中学到的是，经济学不仅仅是学习一套花哨的词汇，而是用它们来制定可行的商业策略。当你理解这些术语时，你可以使用诸如Porter的五种力量和SWOT分析等理论和框架来评估情况，并为组织做出各种经济决策，比如是否追求捆绑式或无捆绑式定价模式。其次，这项经济研究告诉我组织和市场的行为，但你也会洞察你自己的消费习惯和价值观。例如，支付意愿（WTP）是某人愿意支付的最大金额。假设和实际的WTP之间经常有差距，学习它会帮助你解码自己的行为，并使你做出经济合理的决定。同时，我学到了很多经济学术语和一些数学函数来处理现实生活中的财务问题。因此，我认为我们经济计划的部分理论是伟大的。
Another part of the Harvard economic program is topic research. We have about a month to complete a research paper assigned by our professor. At first we started slow, from the introduction about our topic of factors affecting Chinese firm’s investment to using specific app to deal with complicated data. Some math skills and computer skills might required in this process, otherwise it is going to be tough. After I had a good understanding of our topic, we began to analyze data. Our final paper is mostly based on the analyzed data. We need to describe what change in certain data can affect a firm’s financial condition which I think it is pretty cool.
哈佛经济计划的另一部分是专题研究。我们有大约一个月的时间来完成教授布置的研究论文。首先，我们从对影响中国企业投资的因素的介绍引入特定的应用程序来处理复杂的数据，起步较慢。在这个过程中可能需要一些数学技能和计算机技能，否则将是艰难的。在我对我们的主题有了很好的理解之后，我们开始分析数据。我们的论文主要是基于分析的数据。我们需要描述某些数据的变化会影响公司的财务状况，我认为这很酷。
Lastly, I think if you really want to improve yourself during the research. You will need to interact with your professor more and show him your passion about economics. The professor guide you to the correct path but you will need to complete the marathon by yourself.
